Gender Budget Tagging (GBT)
Training Workshop for Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
4 January 2024, Peshawar
On 4 January 2024, Omar Asghar Khan Foundation designed and conducted a training on Gender Budget Tagging for about 40 government officials from key departments including Finance, Planning & Development, Social Welfare & Women’s Empowerment, Health, Education, Home, etc.
The training was part of the technical assistance provided by the Foundation since February 2023 through the Sub-National Governance Project to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to design a Gender Budget Tagging (GBT) Methodology. The methodology designed by the Foundation was approved by the Working Group chaired by Additional Secretary, Finance in August 2023. This was followed by the Foundation using the methodology to analyze Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s budgets of three financial years (FY2020-21, FY2021-22 and FY2022-23).
The training helped participants better understand Gender Responsive Budgeting and become familiar with the methodology designed for GBT. In 2024, continued engagement with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is planned, under which technical assistance will be provided for the uptake and institutionalization of the GBT.
