State of the Rights of the Differently-Abled in KP: Aawaz-II Provincial Consultation & Launch of Aawaz-II’s Digital App: Equal Access
To commemorate the International Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Aawaz II organised a provincial consultation on the State of the Rights of the Differently-Abled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The event highlighted issues faced by the Differently-Abled and also provided opportunities to relevant government representatives to share information on steps taken for promoting the rights and welfare of citizens who are differently-abled. At the event, Aawaz II’s Digital App: Equal Access was also launched. This mobile application is a platform accessible to users with various disabilities. it provides relevant information on services, public service announcements, information pertinent to different government entitlements, as well as opportunities available to them in their respective districts. 34 members of the civil society including differently-abled persons, government officials and the central, provincial and district representatives of Aawaz-II joined the consultation (in-person and virtually).
Mr. Altaf Hussain, Deputy Secretary, Social Welfare Department-KP, appreciated Aawaz-II for arranging such an inclusive and informative session. Responding to a participant’s query, he said that the policy of reduced public transport fares was applied in the BRT service in Peshawar. He mentioned that the government had established Braille printing facilities so that text books may now be available to the visually challenged.
